I had the opportunity to venture out again to visit another farm. I think one of the most fun things about these posts is visiting the farms. Today I’d like to introduce you to Graise farm; this farm is operated by Tiffany and Andy in Faribault, Minnesota. The name of their farm is an acronym for Grass-fed Raised Humanely Animals in a Sustainable Environment. Tiffany and Andy started the farm in 2012 on over 20 acres of land. Tiffany actually grew up on this farmstead when where her family raised dairy cows.

Currently, they raise ducks and chickens for fresh eggs. They have approximately 500 ducks and 400 chickens to produce eggs for the local area. The ducks and chickens have access to the outdoors for foraging, weather permitting, every day. They each have shelter for the night to protect from predators. When I arrived for my farm visit it was time to let the fowl out of their respective shelters. It was quite the experience to watch their exodus. I was able to video the ducks being let out. Did you happen to see a goose or two? Geese are used as protection from predators along with guardian dogs. Their chicken egg brand is Local Yolks. They can be found at Lowery Hill Meats in Minneapolis, HyVee in Faribault and Owatonna, and a few other places in their area. The duck eggs are sold in these same locations along with specialty stores across the Midwest. If you haven’t tried duck eggs, they are wonderful for baking. If you want to check more info about different eggs, check out this post. Both eggs can be purchased at the farm if you set up a time for pick up with Tiffany.

Graise Farm also raises pastured pork. You can purchase either 1/2 or a whole hog from Graise Farm. Their pigs have access to pasture and woodlands year-round and they’re also fed certified organic feed. The pigs are bred and raised on their farm. The day that I visited, the pigs were enjoying the mud after a fresh morning rain!

Tiffany and Andy are committed to providing healthy and local food to the community. I encourage you to check out their website if you would like to learn more or better yet, place an order. Their order form is super easy to complete. Fall pork is sold out, but Tiffany is taking names for their winter harvest. You can also sign up for their newsletter so you will keep up with all the farm happenings.

As with any farm now a days, there have been challenges along the way, but I believe with the support of our communities, we can encourage these young farmers to stay the course and provide healthy, local, sustainably raised food for us in the community.

Be blessed, be a blessing, and support local farmers,

Heather
