There are 100’s of herbs and spices available with many different flavors, plus they are little power houses of nutrients. I recently taught a class about healing herbs and spices from the kitchen and thought I would share a few things from the class.
This week’s farm is Seelye Brook Farms located in Oak Grove, Minnesota which is about 45 minutes north of the Twin Cities. Randy and Karen Kleinman have been farming here since the fall of 2016. I had the privilege of visiting their farm where the whole family was involved in the tour!

According to the CDC, about 1 in every 3 adults in the United States have high blood pressure, but only half of these people have their condition under control. This puts these people at a higher risk of heart disease and stroke, which are the leading causes of death in the United States. Our heart works extremely hard for us; it contracts and relaxes an average of 70 times per minute, and a woman’s heart beats a little faster than a man’s. Taking care of our heart is an important investment in ourselves.

What is seasonal eating? It is purchasing and eating produce that is in season, pretty simple, right? There are a couple of advantages to seasonal eating:
We have all probably heard the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Those same apples can keep osteoporosis away, too. Phloridzin is a flavonoid found only in apples, especially in the peel. It turns out this flavonoid has some powerful components. The phloridzin provides protection by improving inflammation markers and oxidative stress. Inflammation exerts significant influence on bone turnover which can result in osteoporosis.
